Along with other Antipodean exports, Bassike is fast becoming our mainstream mate. Two former Tsubi-ites, Deborah Sams and Mary Lou Ryan are weaving their magic into luxury basics incorporating organic cottons, wools and denims into their designs, showing the world that ecological clothing production is where it’s at.
"We felt that there were a lot of high-end labels doing very well, but not a lot of good organic ‘basics brands’ that could sit alongside other well known brands in boutiques" says Deborah. The result? Honest to goodness, comfy wardrobe staples that stand the test of time. And times these days can be a-testing. But throw on one of their super-luxe oversized organic tee-shirts with a pair of effortlessly cool slouch track pants and we can muck out with the best of them.
